Abstract
[Objective] To study the expression of syndecan-1 and heparanase protein in renal cell carcinoma and the relationship with development, progression and metastasis of carcinoma. [Methods] Immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the expression of syndecan-1 and heparanase protein in 62 cases of renal cell carcinoma. [Results] The positive protein expression of syndecan-1 was 50% (31/62). The syndecan-1 protein expression was correlated with the pathological type, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis (P 0.01). The positive protein expression of heparanase was 24.2% (15/62). The heperanase protein expression was correlated with the pathological type, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis (P 0.01). The positive protein co-expression of syndecan-1 and heperanase was correlated with the pathological type, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis (P 0.01). [Conclusions] Co-expression of syndecan-1and heparanase protein might serve as marker of the prognosis of renal cell carcinoma.
