Abstract
Objective To determine the effectiveness and feasibility of personalized aspheric intraocular lens(IOL) implantation based on preoperative corneal spherical aberration.Methods Patients for cataract surgery were offered topographical measurement preoperatively.Based on the corneal spherical aberration at 6-mm optical zone,one of three aspheric IOLs was chosen so the arithmetic sum of the corneal spherical aberration and pseudophakic spherical aberration came close to zero.In the follow-up 3 months after surgery,corneal spherical aberration at 6-mm diameter was measured and compared with the preoperative value and predictive value.The effectiveness was assessed by comparing postoperative total ocular spherical aberration with other personalized and nonpersonalized studies.The feasibility was assessed by comparing predictive value and postoperative total spherical aberration.Results Sixty eyes of 53 patients were available for analysis.The preoperative and postoperative corneal spherical aberration at 6-mm diameter were(0.250±0.111) μm and(0.250±0.107) μm respectively.The difference was not statistically significant(P=0.768).Postoperative total ocular spherical aberration at 6-mm diameter was 0.0365±0.0654 μm,which was bigger than the preoperative.But the difference was not statistically significant(P=0.299).For the entire population,mean absolute predictive error measured was(-0.009±0.092) μm,among which 49 eyes (81.7%) were with in(±0.10) μm and 34 eyes(56.7%) were within(±0.05) μm.Conclusion The personalized aspheric intraocular lens(IOL) implantation based on preoperative corneal spherical aberration is feasible.This method can reduce postoperative total ocular aberrations,and make the aberration close to the predictive value.
