Abstract

Objective:To study The diagnosis and treatment of retrocaval ureter.Method:The clinical data of 11 patients with retrocaval ureter were retrospectively analyzed in our hospital from 1988 to 2003.Result:All the 11 cases were correctly diagnosed preoperatively depending on B ultrasound, intravenous urography (IVP), retrograde ureteropyelography(RP), et al.Ureteral replacement and ureteroplasty were used to treat this disease. The symptom disappeared in all cases with hydronephrosis and hydroureter significantly reduced on B ultrasonography and intravenous urography (IVP), and no ureter stenosis was observed postoperatively. Conclusion:The diagnosis of retrocaval ureter depends on the combination of several image methods. Retrograde ureteropyelography(RP) is the main means of diagnosis. Ureteral replacement and ureteroplasty are the treatment of choice.
