Abstract

Objective To analyze primary and middle school students' body shape and constitution during 1985-2005,and to provide a basis for school health planning. Methods Based on 1985 and 2005 students' health research information in Taiyuan. The indices were compared among students aged 7-18 years during 1985-2005,which including height, weight, chest circumference,50 m×8 round running, standing jump, slanting pull-up,pull-up,sitting-up,50 m × 8 running,800 m running,1 000 m running. Results During 1985-2005,primary and secondary school students' growth and development level increased significantly in Taiyuan. The average increment of height was 6.12 cm for boys and 3.31 cm for girls;average increment of weight was 7.58 kg for boys and 3.99 kg for girls;average increment of chest circumference was 4.80 cm for boys and 3.12 cm for girls. The development of physical constitution was uneven. On 50 m running, boys average decreased 0.31 s,girls decreased 0.67 s;on standing long jump, boys increased 4.47 cm,girls declined 4.58 cm averagely;on slanting pull-up,boys averagely increased 1.75 times/min in 7-12-year group but declined 3.64 times/min in 13-18-year group;on sitting-up,the increment was 4.52 times /min in 7-18-year-old girls;on 50 m × 8 round running of 7-12-year group, boys decreased 12.17 s,girls decreased 5.20 s;13-18-year-old boys dropped 40.33 s in 1 000m running, girls dropped 36.08 s in 800 m running. Conclusion For the obvious longitudinal changes in body shapes and dropping trend of physical constitution, some measures should be made to intervene among primary and secondary school students in Taiyuan.
