Abstract
Several guidelines were proposed in this paper regarding the issue of soil contamination and safety of agro-products in China.First, appropriate remediation technologies and management policies should be developed in consideration of the soil contamination level. For soils with low-to middle-level contamination, bioavailability of pollutants can be inhibited or decreased by control or adjustment of the species distribution;for soils with high-level contamination, washing can be applied in remediation,however,re-contamination due to the use of washing agents should be avoided.Furthermore, studies in self-recovery,diagnosis of early damage to biomass, and mechanisms of toxicity of contaminated soils are needed in order to develop a systematic methodology for regulating remediation standards and evaluating the ecological safety of soils.
