Abstract

The relationship between Wang Yangming and Taoism can be analyzed in two aspects. One is his deep-rooted affinity with Taoism,and the other is his deification brought about by the scholars and folk society,which includes the theoretical creation in refined culture by his disciples and successors and the development of related paintings,dramas and folktales in popular culture. The immediate result of deifying Wang Yangming is the religious and folk tendency of Yangming Study. It was in such a process that Yangming Learning was widely popularized in late Ming Dynasty and its function for the rural education was strengthened.
