Analysis on injury conditions among people over 60 years old in the town of Tongzhou district,Beijing

Objective To describe the epidemiological status of injury among elderly people,and to provide a scientific evidence for intervention developing. Methods Data of injury patients over 60 years old that collected from sentinel hospitals in2013 were analyzed. Results Among all 4545 injury cases,764 were the elderly which accounted for 16. 81%. The female and male patients were 384 and 380 respectively,which accounted for 50. 26%,and 49. 74%. There were 61. 91% of cases belonged to 60- 69 age group. The top four causes of injury were falls( 54. 58%),animal injuries( 15. 05%),non-motorized vehicle accidents( 9. 42%) and blunt injuries( 8. 25%). The most injuries occurred at home( 67. 54%). The most common site of injury on body was trunk( 33. 12%). The time of injury occurrence had certain regularity. Conclusion Falls was the leading cause of injury to the elderly. Normally injuries occurred at home. The risk factors should be targeted and changed to prevent the occurrence of injury.
