Abstract
When discussing the relationship between the individual and the public,Lu Xun considers himself to be a member of the public. He never considers himself superior to anyone. In Lu Xun's viewpoint, the compliment of an individual should never be hierarchical.Instead, such a compliment should be the approval of one's individual spirit and personality. The criticism on the majority, also, should not be the disapproval in terms of politics and hierarchy. The criticism should focus on conformable psychology, lack of independent thinking and cowardliness.Lu Xun never claims to be important as an individual. He doesn't think much of fame and social status and is always ready to give up his life when necessary. When we entitle Lu Xu tothe soul of our nation, the conscience of Chinese intellectuals,we are not over-eulogizing.
