Abstract

OBJECTIVE To understand and analyze the health status,family and social support for the elderly in Gonghexin community in Shanghai. METHODS Census method was used for the elderly aged 90 and above,while cluster random sampling method was used for the elderly aged between 60 and 89. Finally,697 elderly were investigated with questionnaires. RESULTS Among the 697 elderly,50.4% of them were satisfied with their lives. 7.7% of them had difficulties in activity of daily life,among of them 55.4% were taken care by their children,and 54.8% of the elderly didn’t think any community health services. Only 7.9% of the elderly would like to live in rest home. CONCLUSION Providing for the aged is still based on family. The demand for community services by the elderly is lower.
