Clinical application of zirconium dioxide all-ceramic crowns in restoration of anterior teeth

Objective To investigate the clinical therapeutic effect of restoration anterior teeth with zirconium dioxide allceramic crowns. Methods One hundred and thirty two teeth of seventy eight patients who need all crowns restoration of anterior teeth from May 2010 to July 2012 were selected. The patients were divided in random into observation group( 31 cases 58 teeth,which were restored with zirconium dioxide all-ceramic crowns) and control group( 47 cases 74 teeth, which were restored with Nickel-chromium alloy Ceramic crowns). All of the patients were followed up for every 6 months after the restoration,the shape of prosthesis,color matching,edge adaptation,gingival border dye and health situation of gingival border were observed,recorded and compared. Results 1-2 years after restoration,in the observation group,the percent of pass of the 58 teeth was 100%. The shape,color matching,edge adaptation,gingival border dye of the 58 restoration teeth were good. Only 8 teeth gum appeared mild inflammation. And the gingival adverse reaction rate was 13. 8% in the observation group. While in the control group,70 teeth were up to standard and 4 teeth were below standard. The percent of pass of the shape was 94. 6%. Color matching of 57 teeth was nearly the same as the adjacent tooth color and he percent of pass was 77. 0%. The percent of pass of the marginal adaptation was 85. 1% and the percent of pass of the gingival coloring was 78. 4%. About the gum responses,26 teeth had phlogosis and the gingival adverse reaction rate was 35. 1%. Compared two groups of restoration,the two groups showed no significant difference of prosthesis shape( P 0. 05). But the color matching、edge adaptation、gingival border dye and health situation of gingival border showed significant difference between the two groups( P 0. 05). Conclusion The application of zirconium dioxide all-ceramic crowns was better than that of Nickel-chromium alloy Ceramic crowns at aesthetic effect in restoration of anterior teeth. The zirconium dioxide all-ceramic crowns' durability was better and the influence to paradentium was less. It was the excellent material of anterior teeth's restoration.
