Abstract

Objective To compare the pregnancy outcome after the first and second-trimester fetal reduction of multiple pregnancies. Methods In December 1999-October 2010 in our hospital there were 207 patients and 35 patients who were performed with the first and second-trimester fetal reduction, respectively. We compared with operation complications, pregnancy outcome, gestational age and newborn child birth weight situation between the early and mid-term reduction operation. Results There was no bleeding, amniotic fluid leakage, postoperative early abortion, coagulation disorder and other complications after the first and second-trimester fetal reduction of multiple pregnancies. After the two reduction operation of multiple pregnancies, the late abortion were 9.36% and 3.13%,no significant difference;the average birth weight of newborn was(2.76±0.55)kg and(2.53±0.48)kg;the gestational age was(37.73±1.09)weeks and(35.44±2.81)weeks,all no significant difference. Conclusion The second-trimester fetal reduction of multiple pregnancies could be used as an effective means to avoid multiple pregnancy birth as the first trimester fetal reduction of multiple pregnancies and could be used as a safe, simple and effective method to avoid the abnormal fetus were born.
