Abstract

The choice of diversity index and its measuring index of desert plants is the basis in researching theplant community species diversity. This paper chooses ten measuring indices indicating the community speciesdiversity, richness, dominance and evenness of desert plants to research the species diversity of desert plantcommunities in the peripheral regions of the Karamay Agricultural Developmental Region by taking theabundance, coverage and important value as the measuring indices. The ten indices are analyzed by usingcorrelation analysis and principal component analysis. The results are as follows: the results of species diversity,abundance, dominance and evenness of desert plant communities, measured by using the important value, aremore rational than that measured by using abundance and coverage; among the diversity indices, Shannon-Wienerdiversity index is more rational to reveal the diversity of desert plant communities; in addition, the correlationbetween the evenness index and the diversity index is higher than that between the abundance index and diversityindex, which reveals that the species diversity index of the desert plant communities with poor species is mainlyaffected by the distribution pattern of the species in the communities.
