Observation of the efficacy of chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy for esophageal cancer

Objective:To observe the results and side effects of chemotherapy with DF combined with radiotherapy in treatment of esophageal cancer.Methods:A prospective randomized trial on chemotherapy (C) with DF(Cisplatin +fluorouracil)combined with radiotherapy(R) for esophageal cancer was carried out in 92 patients.The patients were randomized into combined group (R+C,46 patients) or radiotherapy alone group (R,46 patients).6MV photon was used for all patients,each 1.82Gy,5 times a week,irradiation dose 6070Gy.combined group with conventional external beam radiotherapy,radiation therapy began the day with DF regimen: fluorouracil (5FU) 500mg / d,d15.Cisplatin (DDP) 20mg/d.d15,a course of treatment every 28 days,Eifficacy and toxicity were evaluated after two cycles(range:2~4).Results:The combined group and the radiotherapy alone group remission rates were 82.6% and 58.7% (P 0.05).Conclusion:The efficacy of chemotherapy(C) with DF combined with radiotherapy is superior to radiotherapy alone,toxicity can be tolerated,and may be a therapeutic alternative for esophageal cancer.
