Abstract
In order to reveal the water supply mechanism and water content distribution in different altitudes, the soil water content characteristics at typical southern slope in arid river valley region at upstream of Minjiang River in Li county Sichuan Province were studied. The results showed: average water contents at top soil layer(0 to 50cm) were 54.04,42.80,56.38 and 66.22 mm at altitude 1450,1650,1850 and 2050 m,respectively. These indicated in typical southern slope the water content status following the order: top of the slope down slope middle slope. The vertical distribution orderliness of water storage in soil layer showed as the order of: layer of 30 to 50 cm10 to 30 cm0 to 10 cm.Compared with the different slope sections, the water storage in the bottom soil layer was the highest.Water storage at the top soil layer was the least and more stable than that of in middle and bottom soil layer. The seasonal distribution of water storage was extremely imbalance in different altitudes in southern slope. The seasonal variety of water storage did not accord to the seasonal precipitation. The soil layer water storage displayed obvious lag of one month than precipitation process.
