Abstract

We used the Singular Value Decomposition(SVD) technique to analyze the relationship between sensible heat field in the Tibetan Plateau and spring precipitation in the Loess Plateau, based on the spring precipitation data during 19612000 from the 56 meteorological stations on the Loess Plateau and re-analyzed NCEP/NCAR data. The result showed that the first two modes derived from SVD indicated the principal coupled characteristics of the sensible heat field and the precipitation field, having closely time-space correlation. The most responding regions of regional spring precipitation to previous abnormity of the sensible heat on Qinghai-Xizang Plateau situate at the west, the south and the north of the Loess Plateau. It was found that the variation of the first two modes derived from SVD with the previous sensible heat field in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau is a signal for the prediction of spring precipitation in the Loess Plateau.
