Effects of Ligation of Bilateral Common Carotid Arteries on the Gastric Motility in Rats

Abstract

The effects of bilateral carotid ligation on the gastric motility were observed. The results were as follows:(1) during bilateral carotid ligation for 30 min period,the gastric motility within the initial 2 min was significantly inhibited compared with that before ligation(P0.05),but that of the 28~30th min returned by and large to the level before ligation.(2) during withdrawing ligation for 30 min period,within the initial 2 min,the gastric motility was again inhibited compared with that of the 28th~30th min during ligation(P0.05).The gastric motility in the last 2 min after withdrawing ligation didn't show significant changes compared with that of 2 min before withdrawing ligation.These results suggest that the gastric motility can be inhibited in the initial stage of cerebral ischemia by ligating bilateral carotid in rats,but this inhibitory effect would be gradually eliminated with the prolonging of ligating time,this is maybe the compensated effect of cerebral arterial circulus or Willis circulus.
