Abstract
A long term fencing and grazing experiment was carried out in the typical grassland of Inner Mongolia in 1979.Sampled in 2005(26years)and 2010(31years)to analyze the response of vegetation and soil to the fencing and grazing treatment in growing season. The results showed that fencing increased plant species compared to grazing.Fencing increased aboveground biomass, grazing treatment was not obvious.Grazing and fencing increased root biomass, and grazing treatment was more evident.Soil organic matter and total nitrogen content showed a gradually decreased trend with the increase of soil depth.Fencing increased the content of soil organic matter significantly(P0.05)in the 0~40cm soil layer, but free grazing was not significant(P0.05).The soil total nitrogen content in the fencing and grazing area were significantly(P0.05)increased.
