Comparative study of the analgesic effect of morphine sulfate and morphine HC1 tablets in treatment of 84 patients with moderate to severe cancer pain

Abstract

Objective: To study the analgesic effect of morphine sulfate and morphine HCl tablets in treatment of moderate to severe cancer pain. Methods: Patients with cancer pain were initially treated with 10-30mg every 4-6 hours morphine sulfate or morphine HCl tablets. Then the dose was titrated individually to no pain or basically no pain and maintained for 7days. Results: The complete pain relief rate for the 2 groups was 77. 3% and 77. 5 % with a total effective rate of 100% . Conclusion : Both the morphine sulfate and morphine HCl tablets are highly effective in treatment of moderate to severe cancer pain.
