Features of hydrocarbon source rocks of Paleogene Niubao Group in Awengcuo basin,Tibet Plateau,China

Abstract

Based on the section of Paleogene Niubao Group in Awengcuo basin,the authors study on the organic matter abundance,organic matter type and organic matter maturity of the hydrocarbon source rocks.The result shows that the organic matter abundance of the hydrocarbon source rocks is below medium,and the average organic carbon contents of the clay shale and marlite are 0.26% and 0.15%,respectively.The clay shale demonstrates poor hydrocarbon source rock characteristics and its organic types areⅡ1-Ⅱ2.The marlite reaches the standard of moderate-good source rocks and its organic type is Ⅱ1.The organic matter maturity of the hydrocarbon source rocks from Paleogene Niubao Group is not high,almost in the stage of immaturity or low maturity.The whole assessment is that there are poor to medium source rocks in Niubao Group of Awengcuo basin.
