Abstract

The flow injection analyzer was used for determination of total nitrogen and phosphorus in water. The results show that there is a good linear relationship when the total nitrogen and phosphorus are in the range of 0.00 to 10.0 mg/L and 0.00 to 1.00 mg/L respectively. The relative errors are all less than 5%.The relative standard deviations are all in the range of 1% to 3%.The minimum detection limits are 2.27 μg/L and 2.11 μg/L respectively, being lower than those by the national method. The recoveries of total nitrogen and phosphorus are 97.2% to 108% and 100% to 106% respectively. The method is suitable to automatically analyze total nitrogen and phosphorus in water at the same time.
