Abstract
The effects of tetrandrine on DNA and collagen synthesis of rat Ito cells and hepatocytes isolated and cultured were investigated by assays through incorporation of ~3H-TdR and ~3H-proline into the cells. The results suggested that tetran- drine in 10-50 μg/ml could inhibit DNA synthesis and collagen production of cells, the inhibition was time and dose depen- dent.Liver fibrosis was induced by CCl_4 in rats and the antifibrogenesis effect of tetrandrine was observed. The results showed that tetrandrine reduced the necrosis and fibrogenesis of liver in rats.Study of the liver by HE stain revealed that no severe liver damage was found in rats treated with tetrandrine.
