Antimicrobial Activities of the Polysaccharide Extracts from Houttuynia cordata Thunb and Artemisia caillaris Thunb

Abstract

The crude polysaccharides were extracted from Houttuynia cordata Thunb and Artemisia caillaris Thunb by hot water.These crude extracts were tested.against seven food spoilage using the agar disc diffusion method.The result showed that polysaccharide extracts from Houttuynia cordata Thunb and Artemisia caillaris Thunb have varying amount of activities against gram positive bacteria,antibacterial activities were stronger than fungi.Antifungal activities.The minimum inhibition concentrations(MICs)of polysaccharide extracts of Houttuynia cordata Thunb against s Staphylococcus aureus Roenbach was 5 mg/ml.
