Humble Life in the Secular World: A Review of Wang Zengqi's Novels of "the 1980s"

Wang Zengqi(1920-1997) drew a lot of attention for his novels published in 1980s.A review of his works during this period shows that his most important contributions to innovation of fiction of the 1980s lie in his discovery of secular world and humble life therein,which,having been criticized,resisted and transformed in discourse of Enlightenment and revolutionary literature,became reasonable and lawful subject matter that were favored and even advocated in Wang's novels.This has blazed a trail in shaping of Chinese fiction of the 1980s.
