Abstract

Many distributed virtual reality applications can be developed by using virtual reality modeling language (VRML), but the transmission speed of Internet still can not satisfy the requirements of real-time interaction of distributed systems. We designed and implemented a system for users' interaction and browsing in VRML scenes. By extracting the scene graph, users can choose the parts he interested for transferring, therefore the communication data is reduced, and the interaction between the user and the system is enhanced. In addition, level of digital methods is integrated to simplify complex scenes and accelerate rendering processes.
