Abstract

Objective To explore the imaging characteristic and clinical value of arterial fenestration of the head and neck. Methods We introspectively studied the imaging and clinical manifestations of 360 cases examined by CTA in the head and neck from 2011.1 to 2011.12.We mainly observed the manifestations of arterial fenestration. Results In 360 cases,18 cases were detected with fenestrations,9 cases in vertebral artery,5 in basilar artery,2 in middle cerebral artery,2 in anterior communicating artery region. The arterial fenestration was typed on the base of its size and morphology.10 were categorized as slit-pattern,9 as convex-lens-pattern.All the cases exhibited localized vascular duplication,1 was complicated with aneurysms, and 1 with original anomalies of left common carotid artery. Conclusion MSCTA can accurately demonstrate the location, type and adjacent structure of fenestration,It has an important use to guide diagnosis and treatment of the disease in the head and neck.So it is an optimum noninvasive imaging tool for the diagnosis of intra and extracranial arteries.
