Abstract
After the first batch of true F1 hybrids from S. officinarum×E. arundinaceus wereobtained at Hainan Sugarcane Breeding Station in 1970s,another 30 F1 lines were selected in the mid 1990s. In 2001,140 BC1 progeny were produced, from which elite clones were selected to backcross with sugarcane commercial varieties, producing a total of 18756 seedlings in 2003,and a batch of BC2 hybrids was therefore obtained. The recent progress on the utilization of Erianthus arundinaceus in sugarcane breeding was reported in this paper.
