Analysis of changes of plasma brain natriuretic peptide level and atrial natriuretic peptide concentration in heart failure patients

Abstract

Objective To study the changes of plasma brain natriuretic peptide(BNP) level and the concentration of atrial natriuretic peptide(ANP) in heart failure(HF) patients. Methods 60 patients with HF and 20 cases of healthy subjects were selected as observation group and control group,respectively. Plasma BNP level and ANP concentration were detected by RIA and ELISA methods. Cardiac function grading was based on the grading standard of New York heart association(NYHA). Cardiac ultrasound diagnostic instrument was used to test the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDD),left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) and cardiac function index(CFI). Results The plasma ANP and BNP concentrations of the observation group were significantly higher than those of healthy control group( P 0. 05). Plasma BNP and ANP concentrations of the patients with cardiac function NYHA class Ⅲ and NYHA class Ⅳ were significantly higher than those in patients with cardiac function NYHA class Ⅱ(P0.05). Between patients with cardiac function NYHA grade Ⅲ and NYHA class Ⅳ,the plasma BNP levels were significantly different(P0.05),but the ANP concentration had no significant difference(P 0.05). The plasma BNP level,ANP concentrations,LVEDD,and LVEF of the heart failure patients were negatively correlated with CFI. Conclusion Plasma BNP level and ANP concentration have diagnostic value in heart failure patients. However,the BNP level is more accurate and correlated with cardiac function indexes and NYHA classification than ANP.
