Abstract
The effect of RE modification and heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of hypereutectic Al-0.6Mg- 18Si alloy is studied. The microstructures of the alloy at different tempers are observed by SEM and optical microscope, and the mechanical properties tested. The results show that combination of rare earth modification and heat treatment is an effective way to improve the structural morphology of the hypereutectic Al-0.6Mg-18Si casting alloy and increase its mechanical properties.
