Abstract

Protoplast can be used as an excellent receptor in genetic transformation.Variation of protoplast-derived plants are very common.Cybrids also can be obtained from protoplast fusion. All this pave way for vegetable breeding.Advance in protoplast culture and protoplast fusion and application of these technology in the breeding of Brassica vegetable were reviewed in this paper. The prospect of these protoplast based technology was discussed as well.
