An Analysis of the Potential and Benefit of the Urban Available Rainwater Resources of the Plateau Basin Cities in Southwest China

Abstract

Some water problems such as flood disaster in summer and autumn,water scarcity in winter and spring and water environment degradation have greatly restricted the sustainable development of the southwest plateau basin cities of China.However,the scientific utilization of urban rainwater can effectively solve these problems.Based on the characteristics of the urban climate and terrain in southwest plateau basin cities of China,this paper analyzes the potential of the urban available rainwater resources in the downtown areas and suburbs in such plateau basin cities.This case study of Kunming as well as its land-use and rainfall here reveals that there is great potential for the use of the rainwater in Kunming in terms of the economic,ecological and social benefits,which has great theoretical and practical significance to the sustainable development of the southwest plateau basin cities of China.
