Analyzing O'Henry's Narrative Device from The Gift of the Magi

The Gift of the Magi is one of O'Henry's representative works.This paper aims to elucide Henry's uniqueness in fictional narrative speed,narrative impetus,suspense and focalization.The author argues that the fiction is told by adapting the narrative device such as the change of the narrative speed and focalization instead of being told by an omniscient narrator,which improves the credibility and the artistic glamour of the story.
