Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical values of the levels of PCT,hs-CRP and WBC in the early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis. Methods One hundred and sixty five infants with neonatal sepsis were collected in 2013,who received PCT,hsCRP,WBC and blood culture test. Blood culture results were taken as the gold standard. The Mann-Whitney U test,ROC curve and Logistic were used for statistical analysis.( P 0. 05). Results ROC curve area under the PCT,hs-CRP and WBC were 0.879,0. 760,and 0. 633,respectively and 95% CIs were 0. 826 ~ 0. 932,0. 675 ~ 0. 845,and 0. 542 ~ 0. 724. Standard errors were0. 027,0. 044,and 0. 046. The threshold values of PCT,hs-CRP and WBC for diagnosis of neonatal sepsis were 2. 165 ng / m L,10. 800 mg / L,and 6. 475 × 109/ L,while the maximum Youden index( Youden index = sensitivity-misdiagnosis rate),and sensitivity were 0. 709,0. 724,and 0. 829; specificity was found to be 0. 947,0. 737,and 0. 263,respectively. Conclusion The results of PCT,hs-CRP,and WBC examinations run parallel to the blood culture, and the tested values are closely associated with specificity compared with a low specificity of WBC test. A combined detection has advantage over a single test. PCT test combined with hs-CRP and WBC testes may be used for early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis.
