Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical application of uterine artery embolization on uterine leiomyoma. Methods Forty-six cases of uterine leiomyoma were treated by UAE.The post-opretive reactions and symptomatic improvement were observed in 3,6 and 12 months. Results The angiographic featues of uterine leiomyoma were: 24 cases from both uterine arteries equally,17 cases mainly from one uterine artery,5 cases simply from one uterine artery. The procedure revealed average shrinkage of 34% in volume of the masses for all cases in the first 3 months,48% in 6 months and 56% in 12 months, with 5 uterine leiomyoma disappeared.Clinical symptoms in all cases were disappeared or improved significantly, and no serious complications occurred. Conclusion UAE is a safe, effective and less invasive way to treat uterine leiomyoma.
