Abstract

The source rocks in Qimugen-Sangzhuhe area of southwestern Tarim depression include Ordovician, Carboniferous-Lower Permian, Jurassic and Upper Cretaceous-Paleogene ones. The seismic data show that the Cambrian-Ordovician source rocks have a great thickness of 2 000 m at the footwall of the fault No. 20. The Carboniferous-Lower Permian source rocks are high to very high in maturity, with a wide distribution, great thickness, high content of organic material and better variety. They are at mature to highly mature stage in Kekeya and Pusha-Keliyang areas, as practical hydrocarbon source rocks. The Upper Cretaceous-Paleogene source rocks are at mature stage as good hydrocarbon source rocks, but with low potential of generating oil. Kashi depression is inferred as a place with great potential of oil generation.
