RHETORIC & CHINESE LANGUAGE’S STANDARDIZATION:ON USING FUNCTION WORDS IN “MODERN STYLE” POETRY

This article explores the cause and effect of using function words in some “modern style” poerty in the Tang and Song Dynasties,which produce an unexpected effect on the poetry. Thus,this kind of usage out of the pragmatic concern becomes a naw rule. We can regard the usage of funation words in this particular way during the historical period of the Tang and Song Dynasties as an illustrating example of the relation between rhetoric and Chinese language’s standardization.
