Solitary Fibrous Tumor of Chest:CT Diagnosis

Objective To investigate the specific CT findings of solitary fibrous tumor(SFT) in the chest.Methods CT features of pectoral SFT confirmed operatively and pathologically in 8 cases were analyzed comparatively with the histopathological and immunohistochemical findings of the tumors.Results The tumors had definite margins in 8 cases,homogeneous density in 6 cases and central low attenuation in 4 cases on plain CT scans.After contrast enhancement,inhomogeneous enhancement was seen in 7 cases,and with enhanced vessels in 4 cases.Microscopically,SFT was composed of spindle cells with various patterns and these spindle cells were CD34,bc1-2 positive and CK negative on immunohistochemistry.Conclusion CT findings of pectoral SFT are specific to a certainty.CT study is helpful for locating the tumor and observing the relationship between the tumor and surrounding structures.
