Abstract

Minimum inhibitory concentrations(MICs) of the essential oil from cinnamon against bacteria and Candida albicans were determined by agar dilution method. The data were analyzed using statistical software SPSS17. 0,and multifactor analysis of variance(ANOVA) was used to compare the differences between the activities of the essential oil against different bacterial species and Candida albicans. The essential oil from cinnamon showed strong activities against bacteria and Candida albicans, with MICs ranging from 0. 07 mg/mL to 1. 11 mg/mL. And the essential oil had similar antibacterial activity against sensitive bacteria and multi-resistant bacteria including MRSA,ESBLs positive of E. coli. There were no differences between the activities of the essential oil against among S. aureus,E. coli and(P 0. 05). The oil had lower activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa than S. aureus and E. coli(P 0. 01),but it had higher activity against Candida albicans than S. aureus,E.coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae(P 0. 01).
