On the Characteristics of the Usage of Place Names in Ancient Chinese Poetry

This article studies a great number of poetic lines and titles with place names in them and tries to find out the characteristics and regular patterns of the usage of place names in ancient Chinese poetry. It deals with seven types of place names in ancient Chinese poetry: different places with the same name; one place with several names; place names used in a general sense; place names abridged; places with a previously used name; place names changed; place names retained while the administrative area has been changed.
