Abstract

Objective To analysis the structure of the inferior alveolar nerve canal(IANC) in the mandible using cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT). Methods Sixty patients with the CBCT data of the mandible posterior part were enrolled in this study. IANC images were measured with KaVo eXam Vision software in different regions. The independent sample t-tests were used to analyze the variable differences. Results IANC is close to the mandibular lower border and goes from the lingual side to the buccal side of the mandible in the area between mandibular second molar to mental foramen. There is no significant difference between the left side and the right side, neither between females and males(P 0.05). Conclusions CBCT could be used in the observation of the structure of IANC. The characteristics of IANC should be taken into consideration in wisdom tooth extraction and dental implant placement.
