Investigation on Behavior,Knowledge and Attitude of Cigarette Smoking Among 938 Residents in Jiangxi

Objective To know the status of smoking and passive smoking among the residents in Jiangxi,to understand their knowledge and attitude towards tobacco,and to provide the reference for developing effective tobacco control policies. Methods With convenient sampling method,face-to-face questionnaire survey was conducted among 938 staff members from medical institutions,schools,government offices,railway station and bus station,restaurants and internet bars in Xinyu City and Wuning County of Jiangxi Province. The content of interview included current smoking,passive smoking,and the related knowledge and attitude. Results Totally 938 residents were investigated,including 241 smokers. The smoking rate of the teenagers in the age group of 8～ years was 2.16% and the passive smoking rate was 15.57%. The smoking rate of the adults aged 18 years and older was 32.21%,in which the male was 62.16% and the female 2.17%. The passive smoking rate of the adults was 69.55%,in which the male was 75.68% and the female 63.41%. The smoking and passive smoking rates of rural residents were both higher than those of the urban. Conclusions The smoking rate of male residents is relatively high. The smoking and passive smoking rates of rural residents are both higher than those of the urban. Most residents are supportive to smoking bans in public places,but they are short of the knowledge about passive smoking. The tobacco control sectors are confronting huge challenges,it is necessary to develop corresponding tobacco control measures.
