Abstract

A method for the determination of ultratrace gold in geochemical exploration samples by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry after preconcentration with polyurethane foam has been developed.Ultratrace gold is adsorbed by polyurethane foam from 5%~10% aqua regia medium in the presence of Fe3+ and released in 12?g/L thiourea solution. Au is determined by GFAAS with ascorbate as a matrix modifier. The detection limit of the method is 0.04 ng/g for gold. The method has been applied to the determination of trace gold in geological standard reference samples and the results are in good agreement with certified values with precision of 8.44%~11.5% RSD (n=12).
