Abstract
Marine oil spill has now become a major form of marine pollution. This paper introduced remote sensing sensors and remote sensing monitoring methods based on the extent of oil spill, the oil spill quantity and the oil spill type, and also summarized the monitoring capabilities and development directions of domestic and international marine oil spill. From the existing researches,it can be seen that remote sensing monitoring of oil spills extent is the most mature, and there has appeared operational running oil spill system already. But the monitoring of oil spill quantity and oil spill type is still at an experimental stage, the development of which is not yet ripe, nor involves in engineering applications.
