Abstract
Objective To study the current status of overweight and obesity among adults in Shandong Province.Methods The data of 7,267 Shandong adults aged above 18 from the database of 2002 China National Nutrition and Health Survey were analyzed by statistical software SPSS.Results The overall prevalence of adult overweight in Shandong Province was 35.9%,and the obesity rate was 17.5%;furthermore,the centric obesity accounted for 49.5%.The rates of overweight and obesity in Shandong Province were higher than the average level in China and increased with age;the rates in urban areas were higher than those in rural areas and higher among females than males.Conclusions The nutritional status of Shandong adults is not optimal.We should strengthen public health education,popularize knowledge of healthy diet and help people set up good self-care awareness to keep fit.
