Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between transient ischemic attacks(TIA) on carotid artery system and intracranial or extracranial artery stenosis. The diagnosis value of TIA on carotid artery system was evaluated on DSA.Methods 70 patients with TIA on carotid artery system were examined. The characteristics of vascular lesions and identified guilty arteres were observed by DSA.Results 59 patients(84.3%) with artery stenosis or occlusion were founded.Among them,51 patients had clinically relevant artery stenosis or occlusion and 8 patients had contralateral lesions. The rate of intracranial artery stenosis was 86.9%(73/84) and extracranial artery stenosis was 13.1%(11/84).The guilty arteres in 56 cases(94.9%) were identified. Conclusion Intracranial or extracranial artery stenosis is the important factor of TIA on carotid artery system.DSA can define the location, degree and characteristic of artery stenosis.
