Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of classical radical neck dissection(CRND)and supraomohyoid neck dissection (SOND) on neck recurrence rate, survival rate and quality of life (QOL) of the patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in cN0 stage. Methods 68 patients in cN0 stage of OSCC were divided randomly into two groups: group CRND(34 cases) and group SOND(34 cases).Neck recurrence rates between two groups were compared.Survival rates of 3-year and 5-year were analyzed by SPSS10.0 statistic software.UW-QOL questionnaire was used to evaluate QOL of different groups. Results ①3-year neck recurrence rates of group CRND and group SOND were 8.8%,11.7%,respectively(P0.05),and 5-year neck recurrence rates were 11.8%,14.7%,respectively(P0.05). ②3-year survival rate of group CRND and group SOND were 69.1%,68.4%,respectively(P0.05),and 5-year survival rates were 55.6%,54.9%,respectively(P0.05). ③Average total scores of QOL of group CRND and group SOND were 533.57±112.22,653.06±84.92,respectively(P0.05).Compared with CRND,SOND does not decrease survival rate of OSCC, while it can improve the quality of life for oral cancer patients in cN0 stage. Conclusion SOND can replace the CRND for patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma in cN0 stage.
