Abstract

A series of Pd /ZrO2-Al2O3 catalysts with different ZrO2 content were prepared by wet impregnation method. The effect of the ZrO2-Al2O3 mixed oxide and ZrO2 content on the activity of the hydrodesulfurization(HDS) of thiophene over Pd based catalysts was evaluated in a fixed-bed reactor.XRD,H2 adsorption and NH3-TPD techniques were used. The results indicated a suitable ZrO2 content on the ZrO2-Al2O3 mixed oxide leaded to a significant increase of the dispersion of supported palladium oxide species.Compared with Pd/Al2O3,the reduction of palladium oxide species supported on ZrO2-Al2O3 supports proceeded easily due to a weaker metal–support interaction. The maximum in HDS activity was observed for Pd/ZrO2-Al2O3 catalysts with the ZrO2 content(12wt.%).
