Abstract
252bacteria strains were isolated from different tissues of Hami melon which collected from Xinjiang regionshese strains were preliminarily classified as Bacillus spp.Xanthomonas spp.,Pseudomonas spp.,Erwinia spp.,Staphylococcus spp.and Curtobacterium. Among these six genera, isolates of Bacillus were the dominant endophytic bacteria in Hami melon plants. Results indicated that population of endophytic bacteria ranged from 3.15×10~3 to 2.01×10~5CFU/g fresh weight although it might vary depending on variety, tissue and region of the plant.Population of the endophytic bacteria are highest in seed, the average is 6.18×10~6CFU/g fresh weight.secondly in root, thirdly in leaf and lowest in stem and petiole.Of the 252 strains isolated,28.2% strains expressed antagonism against growth of Xanthomonas campestris pv.Cucurbitae (Bryan)Dye .,only 6.7% strains expressed antagonism against growth of Acidovoras avenae subsp.
