Abstract

Objective:To explore the efficacy of endovascular embolization in treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformation(cAVM).Methods:23 patients received endovascular embolization with NBCA or ONYX as embolic materials, among which 2 cases were referred to undergo microsurgery therapy and 4,by gamma knife procedure. Results:The endovascular embolization resulted in anatomical cure in 5 cases, more than 80% disappearance of the malformations in size in 6,60% to 80% in 7 and less than 60% in 5.Only 1 case complicated with hemorrhage after the procedure. Conclusion:Endovascular embolization is a safe an d reliable method for treating AVM,but to some larger AVMs or ones situated at the crucial functional position, endovascular embolization combined with surgery or gamma knife should be more effective, which can greatly reduce the complications and even mortality.
