Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between serum bilirubin and coronary heart disease in elderly patients. Methods Thirty-seven patients with coronary heart disease and 54 healthy cases were enrolled in this study. The clinical data of all the subjects were recorded. The levels of serum bilirubin, blood lipid, liver function were analyzed. Results The levels of serum total bilirubin(TBIL) and indirect bilirubin(IBIL) in the patients with coronary heart disease were significantly lower than those in the healthy cases(P0.05).The level of direct bilirubin(DBIL)showed no difference between the two groups. Conclusions The level of serum bilirubin are decreased in elderly patients with coronary artery disease. In the physiological range mildly elevated bilirubin is one of the protective factors to coronary heart disease.
