Abstract

Orthorhombic bismuth sulfide(Bi2S3) micro-spheres were successfully synthesized by reacting Bi(NO3)3·5H2O with Na2S2O3·5H2O as starting materials via an EDTA assisted hydrothermal method at 180℃.The phase structures, morphologies and optical property of the Bi2S3 products were characterized by X-ray diffraction,field-emission scanning electron microscopy,high-resolution transmission electron microscope and UV-visible spectrometry. The results show that the as-prepared Bi2S3 micro-spheres are composed of many nanorods with diameters of about 100nm,EDTA plays a key role in the shapes of Bi2S3.A possible formation mechanism of Bi2S3 micro-sphere was also discussed. The UV-vis spectrum of Bi2S3 micro-spheres indicates the absorbance at 550nm,with its band gap of 1.50eV.
